BetterMed Spotsylvania Now Participating in Mary Washington Health Alliance

BetterMed’s Spotsylvania clinic is pleased to announce the initiation of an important new partnership with the Mary Washington Health Alliance. In joining the Alliance, BetterMed will improve patient care coordination with all physicians and medical services provided in this regional Alliance. Long-term this means higher quality patient care at a lower cost.

Created in 2013, the Alliance offers a clinically integrated network of highly regarded medical providers who share patient information in order to improve patient outcomes and streamline service delivery. BetterMed is one of two Fredericksburg/Spotsylvania are urgent care participants in the Alliance.

The providers include Mary Washington Hospital’s locations in Fredericksburg and Stafford County and about 400 area primary care physicians and specialists—all committed to working together to provide the best possible patient care at the lowest cost.

“The alliance is an Affordable Care Organization, and its basic mission is to improve patient outcomes, drive down cost, and provide patients with better experiences,” says Mark Johnson, CEO of BetterMed. “This patient-focused mission is almost identical to BetterMed’s purpose, and that’s why we were excited to join.”

MWHA currently serves 75,000 patients, including 4,000 employees of the Mary Washington University System. They include both private insurance and Medicare patients.

“By signing a confidentiality agreement, we can take part in this electronic medical records system, which allows us to streamline the flow of information about these patients and make sure they are well taken care of,” says Johnson.

The system allows providers access to patient histories, allowing them to better track existing medications and prevent unnecessary, duplicate testing. These measures can result in cost savings, which are ultimately passed on to the patient.

“I think the alliance looks for high quality providers who are interested in collaborating and believe in better outcomes for patients,” says Johnson.

He is pleased to welcome Mary Washington Health Alliance patients to BetterMed’s Spotsylvania office, which opened in January 2017.

“It’s a new location and we continue to welcome new patients all the time,” he says. “We have a great team in place, including providers with years of experience and specialization in Urgent Care and Minor Care Emergencies.”

Like all BetterMed facilities, the Spotsylvania location provides full-service urgent care, including x-rays and on-site labs. Spotsylvania and all BetterMed’s locations are open 7 days a week, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

“Patients often mention their experiences at BetterMed exceed their expectations. They cite the quality of care and efficiency (most patients are registered, treated and discharged in under 45 minutes) as examples of what’s different about BetterMed.” he says.

Another plus for patients: “The office is conveniently located, very comfortable and nicely appointed. Patients comment that the furniture looks more like a boutique hotel than a medical facility,” he says. “It’s all in line with providing an overall experience that’s different and better. We believe our patients deserve it.”
