Holidays & Personal Boundaries during COVID-19

With more holiday events approaching, it’s important to think about our own personal boundaries and how to best express them to others.

  1. Establish your boundaries – Ask yourself what you are comfortable with and what you are not comfortable with. Take note of how you feel. 
  2. Communicate – Communicate your boundaries to friends and family clearly and honestly. Not everyone will understand or agree with your decisions, and that’s okay. Be your own advocate. 
  3. Respect others’ boundaries – Make sure you also take time to listen to your friends’ and family’s boundaries as well. What can you do to respect these boundaries and make them more comfortable?
  4. Having an ally helps – Partner, friend, sibling? Having someone who has your back and will help you maintain your boundaries during the holidays is extremely helpful.
